Reliable J420 IronMaven Home Ironing Station With Aluminum Sole Plate Review

The Reliable J420 IronMaven Home Ironing Station With Aluminum Sole Plate is one of the best pressure irons available on the market. After spending ears working in the garment industry, I have used my share of professional iron stations, but since I have started at home, I have yet to find an iron station that delivers professional quality, no matter how long I spend ironing.

Well at least that was true until I started using the Reliable J420 IronMaven, not only does it deliver professional results every time, but it also has cut down on my overall ironing time.

One of the best things about this pressure iron is how it delivers dry steam to the iron itself, this dry steam helps to smooth out wrinkles but it also aids in pressing the best-looking creases you will find. As an added bonus, using the Reliable J420 IronMaven everything can be done in about half the time when compared to using a regular steam iron.

Something else that makes this pressure iron so great is the wrap around cord storage, no more dealing with dangling cords. The pressure iron also comes with a removable iron rest that users can utilize when needing to place the iron directly onto the ironing board.

Pros:

  • Heat resistant cork handle – The handle of the pressure iron is made from a heat resistant cork, which you don’t find too often on any type of iron. Being heat resistant is nice because I don’t have to worry about the handle being too warm to pick up, which I have had problems with on some of my old irons. Another added bonus to the cork is how comfortable it is to hold. The cork molds to the hand for the most comfortable grip, but then bounces back into place after the hand is removed.

  • Stainless-Steel Water Tank – The 18/10 stainless steel water tank is a great addition to the unit because it prevents rust buildup, which any rust buildup in the water could ruin the fabric that is being dry steamed. The tank is also a large tank and can hold up to 5 cups of water, which mightn’t seem like a lot but it is. These 5 cups of water only take about eight minutes to fully heat up, but can be used for about 40 minutes before you have to refill the water.

  • Low water indicator light and automatic shut off for the boiler – One problem with many pressure irons is there is no low water level indicator light, so there is the risk of running the pressure iron without any water in the tank. The low-level water indicator light alerts users when it is time to refill the tank. The boiler also comes with an automatic shut off to prevent the boiler from being run with no water, but also shuts off if the user forgets to turn off the unit.

  • Locking mechanism for the continuous steam option – This pressure iron can be used like a regular iron, but can also be used similar to a garment steamer, so it truly is the best of both worlds. When using it like a garments teamer in the vertical position it needs constant steam to get the wrinkles out, so the locking mechanism delivers just that, no more having to hold in a single button to get the continuous steam.

Cons:

  • Cord is too short – The cord between the boiler tank and the iron base is short, it’s only about 3 feet. What this means is that in order to use the pressure iron eh tank must rest on the end of the ironing board, which is usually fine. However, the problem I run into is when I need to use the entire ironing board; the boiler tank is in the way. To solve this problem I have slide a TV tray underneath my ironing board to hold the boiler tank.

The Reliable J420 IronMaven truly delivers the best of both worlds; it is an iron and garments teamer in one. The aluminum sole plate comes with steam holes at the tip of the plate to help deliver steam where it is needed most. This pressure iron is a little pricey, but it works so well at getting the wrinkles out that you will need to put down extra cushioning on the ironing board to stop any grid marks from coming through.
